Our toys and clothes are Hierloom Quality and built to last

OUR SUSTAINABLY MADE PRODUCTS ARE MADE TO LAST

In this world of “fast fashion” and abundant bargains largely made possible by cheap overseas labor, many textile and home goods simply aren’t made to last.  Consumers are encouraged to follow the latest trend—and, in doing so, older items are often tossed aside with abandon.

The Council for Textile Recycling estimates that the average U.S. citizen throws away 70 pounds of clothing and other textiles annually.  A small percentage of this does get recycled, which is a positive, but there is even a glut of secondhand and recyclable textiles.  There is also a staggering volume of old plastic toys, many of them broken, languishing in landfills and doing a disservice to the environment.

Buy Baby Products Sustainably

What can be done?  The first step is to buy with intention, not simply on a whim or because something is on a great sale.  You want the best for your little one, so it’s worth asking how a product was made, what ingredients went into its production, and how long it will last.  Could the item even become a treasured heirloom passed down from one child to another?

At Finn + Emma, we do our part to make sure our clothes, toys, and accessories are made to last.  Our clothes and toys are made from GOTS-certified 100% organic cotton, wool, non-toxic dyes, untreated wood, and other safe components—no synthetics, metals, chemicals, or plastics.  We pride ourselves on the fact that every component of our entire collection utilizes high-quality raw materials that are designed to endure.  (We also work hard to design items that have an enduring charm!)

Next time you’re in the market for something new for your little one, ask yourself if the item has “heirloom quality” written on it—and then enjoy seeing it passed down among your family, friends, and maybe even generations!
