Motherhood is breathtaking, literally and figuratively. One moment, you’re holding the tiny person you grew inside you, full of awe and wonder… and the next, you’re crying because you can’t remember the last time you showered, or why you walked into the kitchen. You're in love. You’re grateful. But you’re also exhausted down to your bones. And you know what? That’s completely, beautifully normal.

The early days with a newborn are a whirlwind, equal parts magic and mayhem. You’re needed around the clock, your hormones are on a rollercoaster, and your reflection might feel like someone you used to know. But here’s the truth: even in the haze, you still matter. And while you don’t need to “bounce back” or be anyone’s version of perfect, it’s okay to crave little moments that help you feel more like you again.

The good news? You don’t need hours, a babysitter, or a five-step morning routine to feel better. Sometimes, all it takes is a few quiet, intentional moments, the kind that whisper, “I’m still here.”

1. Rethink What “Getting Ready” Means

Let go of the old version of getting ready. Right now, it might mean brushing your teeth before noon and changing out of that milk-stained T-shirt. That’s a win.

Five minutes to splash cold water on your face or swipe on a little tinted moisturizer might not sound like much, but trust me, it shifts something. You’re not doing it for anyone else. You’re doing it to reconnect with the woman who still lives under the layers of spit-up and sleep deprivation.

2. Wear One Thing That Sparks Joy

No need for a full outfit change. Just one thing. Maybe it’s your softest cardigan, the one that feels like a hug. Perhaps it’s lip balm with a hint of color. Or maybe, on days when you want to feel a little bit lovely, it’s a delicate silver lariat necklace you loop around your neck before another day of rocking, bouncing, and bottle-washing.

Tiny things can carry unexpected power. One intentional choice can pull you back into your body, if only for a moment. And sometimes, that’s all you need.

3. Water First, Then Coffee

We’re not here to take your coffee away. (We’d never do that. We’re moms too.)
But before your first sip, try reaching for a glass of cold water. Just one.

It’s like jump-starting your insides. You’ve spent the night giving everything to someone else, rehydrating reminds your body, “Hey, I’ve got your back too.” Besides, your skin and energy levels will quietly thank you. Then you can go ahead and wrap your hands around that coffee mug like the life raft it is.

4. Show Your Skin Some Love, Guilt-Free

Don’t even think about a full skincare routine. This isn’t that. This is about taking 60 seconds, maybe two minutes, to care for your skin because you want to, not because you’re trying to “fix” anything.

Keep a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer you love, or even a face mist where you’ll use them, maybe near the crib or in a basket by the kitchen sink. That way, you can sneak in a little refresh during a diaper change or between feedings.

Think of it as a quiet act of kindness… for you.

5. Carve Out Micro-Moments That Are Yours Alone

There may not be an hour-long bubble bath in your immediate future (unless you count the one with a baby splashing next to you). But you can still create tiny rituals that are yours.

Light a candle when the house finally goes quiet. Play that one playlist that makes you feel like you again. Stand by an open window and take three long, grounding breaths.

These aren’t luxuries. They’re lifelines.

6. Move Gently, However That Looks Today

Forget the pressure to “get your body back.” Your body never left. It’s been right here, creating life, sustaining it, showing up every day.

Movement can be as simple as swaying with your baby to the rhythm of a lullaby, stretching your arms overhead when your back feels tight, or walking around the block with the stroller when the weather allows.

This isn’t about fitness. It’s about reminding your body that it’s not just a tool, it’s home.

7. Speak to Yourself Like You’d Speak to a Friend

You know that little voice that tells you you're not doing enough? Gently tell her to hush.

Motherhood has a way of awakening our inner critic. But the truth is, you’re doing something monumental, even if the house is messy, the dishes are piled up, and you can’t remember what day it is.

Speak to yourself like you would to a friend in your shoes: with softness, with grace, and maybe with a little humor.

“You’re doing your best.”
“That’s more than enough.”
“Also, you’re a badass.”

A Gentle Reminder: You Haven’t Disappeared

It might feel like you’ve lost pieces of yourself. But they’re not gone, just tucked away for a while, wrapped in burp cloths and lullabies.

You’re not broken or lost or less than. You’re in the middle of something vast and vulnerable and sacred. And the thing is, you deserve to feel good in that space. Whether it’s through a piece of jewelry, a splash of water, a deep breath, or ten seconds of eye contact with the mirror, those tiny gestures can be acts of remembering.

You’re not just surviving. You’re becoming.
And you’re doing beautifully.
