The Best Attractions of New York

When it comes to New York, few things come to mind except the well-known Statue of Liberty, Times Square, or the Empire State Building. But think twice! The city does not end there. It does not even end with the interesting places we offer. But let this list be helpful to a traveler who has set foot on New York soil for the first time.

Visiting NYC

Preparation

If planning a one-day visit, it is important to consider where you will put your luggage. Sightseeing with heavy bags is very tiring. Therefore, look in advance at what luggage storage New York can offer. Choose a point near the train station. It will simplify logistics and help you use your available time effectively.

High Line Park

Considering the picture of monumental New York skyscrapers, you might be surprised to learn that there are quite a few parks in this city. Of course, first of all, it is the famous Central Park. However, we want to tell you about a lesser-known but no less interesting one — High Line Park. It is located in the western part of Manhattan and stretches from Hemsworth Street to West 34th Street. The peculiarity of the park is that it is laid out on the site of former railroad tracks at a height of 10 meters above the ground. So, this is an excellent opportunity to “rise” above the noisy bustle of New York streets and enjoy an oasis of nature in the thick of the concrete jungle.

Life Underground

New York is undoubtedly a city with a rich cultural life: one trip is not enough to visit all its museums and galleries! But few people know that New York has a free sculpture gallery in the subway.

The “14th Street — 8th Avenue” station of the New York subway is home to Brooklyn sculptor Tom Otterson's works, Life Underground. Funny little men with money bags instead of heads, crocodiles crawling out of manholes, phantasmagoric toads, and crayfish lying in wait for the “money” Lilliputians — the compositions will not leave anyone indifferent.

Whitney Museum of American Art

Visiting New York and not visiting at least some of its world-famous museums? Are you kidding?! If you are not one of those who think that contemporary American art is exclusively pop art and would like to learn more about it, then the Whitney Museum should be on your list.

Its collection (more than 21,000 works) includes works exclusively by American artists from the 1920s to the present. Everyone will find something for themselves here: paintings, sculptures, photos, video installations, drawings, and media works.

New York Museum of Natural History

Even if you are not a fan of the movie Night at the Museum or any museums that have been boring since childhood, do not refuse to visit the New York Museum of Natural History. It will be attractive for visitors of absolutely all ages!

There are dinosaur skeletons, exhibits on ocean life and North American forests, birds and reptiles, and a planetarium — and this is far from a complete list of the museum's permanent collection alone! Another excellent detail is that visitors can pay as much as they want for admission.

Zoo

One of the most popular places for family (and not only) recreation in New York is the Central Park Zoo. Here, you can see the inhabitants of the American continent (bears, wolves, lynxes) and the fauna of the tropics (primates, reptiles, and birds), and in the pool you can see sea lions.

The Cloisters Museum

When in New York, be sure to visit The Cloisters Museum. In addition to housing an exciting collection dedicated to the art and architecture of Medieval Europe, the building itself was built from fragments of medieval abbeys, brick by brick, exported from Europe to America.

After admiring the ancient tapestries, sculptures, and paintings in the museum halls, stroll through the museum gardens and sit in the shady courtyards, enjoying the atmosphere of antiquity.

Top of the Rock

Seeing New York from a bird's eye view, if not from the 70th floor of Rockefeller Center, is worth it for the impressive panorama (especially in the morning and evening, when the city is magnificent). The Top of the Rock observation deck is the perfect place for this. It is a less famous analog of the Empire State Building but allows you to see the same panorama — and even a little more.

Conclusion

Of course, this list does not pretend to be comprehensive. One article is insufficient to tell about all the places worth seeing in New York. You need to write a whole book.
