5 Home Renovations to Complete Before Baby Arrives

Having a baby is a marvelous thing and all soon-to-be parents are excited for the baby to come. However, that also means that some renovations on the house have to be done. Everyone wants their child to be safe and to do the best for them, and that’s why many parents decide to do a bit of work around the house before the baby is here. There is baby proofing to do, some renovations to complete and to provide enough love and warmth inside the house. So, if you have a baby on the way, here are some renovation projects you should complete before that.

Insulation

Babies love a comfortable temperature inside their homes and no baby should be too hot or too cold. This makes it tough for parents to find that perfect temperature, especially if there is no insulation in the house. If you don’t have insulation, chances are big that you are losing too much heat, and thus too much energy to heat up the house during the colder winter months. Luckily, there is a simple solution to that - learning how to insulate a house. You can easily consult with professionals on the type of insulation that is the best for your home, and provide a safe environment for your newborn. Plus, you will manage to save so much on heating and cooling and it is a great investment in the long run.

Prepare the Nursery Room

Usually, babies spend their first 6 months in the bassinet in their parent’s room. That is convenient because it ensures safe sleep, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare their nursery. If you have already picked the room for the nursery, you should start patching and painting the walls, hanging trim, and ordering furniture. The sooner you finish the nursery, the sooner your baby will feel at home. Plus, you won’t have to deal with noisy tasks around a newborn, since you will have to spend a lot of time with your baby, too.

Refinish the Floors

Every home should have a safe and easy-to-clean surface and it certainly has to be done before the baby comes. As soon as your child starts crawling, the floor is going to be the place where they spend most of their time. So, a smooth surface is a must. There will be spills, bodily fluids, and stains everywhere in the house, and floors should be easy to clean. Additionally, you don’t want any splinters and broken planks when the baby starts crawling, to prevent injuries.

Cozy Up The Kitchen

A new baby brings a lot of responsibilities and if you renovate the kitchen now, you can solve a lot of future problems. Make sure to baby-proof all the bottom cabinets as soon as possible. This gives you time to get used to how the locks work and to prevent the baby from opening it all up. Also, you can knock out some walls that divide the kitchen and dining area to promote an open concept. This will make things easier regarding movement when the baby is there and keep you from constantly having to go through doors and dodge all the toys along the way. Lastly, focus on the baby equipment you are going to need, including all the small appliances that will make food preparation faster and easier.

Get Rid of Mold

Before the baby is there, make sure to inspect the entire house for mold. Basements, bathrooms, and kitchens are prone to mold growth and you should make sure to remove even the smallest traces of it. You don’t want any spores that could cause allergies to your baby as well as breathing difficulties. Babies are sensitive and you should do your best to provide clean air for them.

It goes without saying that every parent wants the best for their kid. So, be smart and finish those renovations before the baby arrives. As soon as the baby is here, you won’t have time for noisy projects and all of your focus and love will be on the baby, as they should.
